Write a comparison or contrast essay about two of the corresponding characters in the table below. Guidelines for Writing a Comparison or Contrast Essay on Characters

  • Choose three points of comparison or contrast: Select three traits or qualities from the pool provided (e.g., confidence, boldness, empathy toward others, perseverance, integrity, honor).
  • Topic Sentence: Each paragraph should start with a clear topic sentence indicating which trait you will be comparing or contrasting.
  • Evidence from the text: Use specific examples from the text to support your analysis of how each character demonstrates or lacks the chosen traits.

3. Conclusion:

  • Summarize the main points: Recap the key similarities or differences you discussed in the body paragraphs.
  • Restate the thesis: Restate the thesis in a way that reflects the arguments made throughout the essay.
  • Final insight: Provide a concluding thought that adds depth to the comparison or contrast, reflecting on what the comparison reveals about the characters or the text as a whole.

4. Formatting:

  • Length: Typically, your essay should be 3-5 paragraphs.
  • Style: Follow standard essay writing practices with clear topic sentences, transitions between paragraphs, and a logical flow of ideas.
  • References: Use relevant sources (e.g., texts, readings) to back up your points. You may also include quotes or paraphrased content as evidence for your analysis.
