Case Study: “Fix it” (WHAT IS SOLUTION PROBLEM )
=>Problem: A small independent general travel agency has experienced a significant decrease in business over the last 3 years. The agency has been in operation in Ontario for 20 years and is in a small strip plaza. The agency does not have a website and does not engage on any social media. Operating hours are 9am-5pm Monday to Friday. Some of the challenges they are facing include:
-Losing clients to online bookings
-Losing loyal long-time clients who can no longer travel due to health limitations
– Losing clients to the competition as another general agency has opened in the vicinity
– Higher operating expenses
=>These challenges have affected the profits of the agency and it has become necessary to revamp their business model or close the doors.
Solution: Fix It! (WHAT OUR GROUP NEED TO FIX THE SOLUTION )
=> Your group, will re-establish this agency to give it a “new” presence and purpose.
=>Research, discuss and things to consider:
– niche (target market or product)
– join an organization (franchise, chain, or consortium)
– advertise/promote/social media
– additional products to sell or revenue sources
– is there a need to relocate? Different hours? Online presence? Social media?
– what qualifications are needed from employees?

– How will you create awareness of the “new” agency? Online? Social media platforms? Why? Benefits? (Website, Facebook, Twitter, Blog) Who will maintain them? What are the costs? New location and hours?
– What knowledge and skills are needed from employees? CTC – Destination specialists, TICO is mandatory – make sure you include this! Office administration or accounting skills?

Your task is to write the Technology section of your group’s research paper. This section should explain how the travel agency will use technology to attract and retain clients, streamline operations, and stay competitive. You must support your choices with facts and industry information while aligning with your group’s plan of focusing on student travel.
📖 Step-by-Step Guide to Writing the Technology Section
1️⃣ Start with a Strong Topic Sentence
Begin your section with a clear topic sentence that introduces the role of technology in transforming the travel agency. Example:
“In today’s digital era, technology plays a crucial role in modernizing travel agencies, enhancing customer experience, and increasing business efficiency. Our revamped student travel agency will leverage various digital tools, including Global Distribution Systems (GDS), social media marketing, and online booking platforms, to create a seamless and engaging experience for student travelers.”
2️⃣ Explain the Role of Technology in Travel Agencies
Discuss how technology benefits a travel agency and why your team is implementing these changes. Highlight how online presence, automation, and digital marketing are crucial for a student-focused travel business.
- The travel industry is shifting towards digital bookings rather than traditional office visits.
- Young travelers prefer online interactions rather than in-person meetings.
- Social media marketing and targeted ads help engage students, making travel exciting.
3️⃣ Key Technologies Your Agency Will Use
✅ 1. Global Distribution System (GDS) for Bookings
- A GDS (e.g., Amadeus, Sabre, or Travelport) will allow your agency to book train tickets, hotels, and flights in real-time.
- Benefits:
- Students can compare prices and book instantly.
- Access to exclusive student travel discounts.
- Increases efficiency for travel agents working remotely.
✅ 2. Social Media Platforms (Tiktok, Instagram Reels, Facebook, Twitter, Blog)
- Tiktok & Instagram Reels: Short-form videos will inspire students to travel. Travel agents will post engaging content about scenic train routes, travel hacks, and student-friendly destinations.
- Facebook & Twitter: Used for customer support, trip updates, and promotional posts about upcoming trips.
- Travel Blog: The agency will maintain a blog on the website with student-focused travel guides, budgeting tips, and itineraries.
✅ 3. Website for Online Bookings and Travel Information
- The agency will create an SEO-optimized website where students can:
- Browse travel packages for local and international student tours.
- Book trips online without needing to visit a physical office.
- Read travel tips and testimonials from other students.
- Chat with travel agents for real-time support.
✅ 4. Online Advertisements (Facebook & Google Ads)
- Paid ads on Facebook and Google will target students searching for budget-friendly travel.
- Ads will include discount offers, special student deals, and testimonials from past clients.
✅ 5. Remote Work & Cloud-Based Systems
- Since your team is shutting down the physical office, you will use cloud-based tools for team coordination.
- Examples of tools:
- Trello/Asana – Manage travel bookings & client lists.
- Zoom/Google Meet – Virtual consultations with clients.
- Slack/WhatsApp – Internal team communication.
✅ 6. Automating Customer Service with Chatbots & AI
- A website chatbot will assist students with:
- Instant trip recommendations based on budget & preferences.
- 24/7 responses to frequently asked questions.
- Real-time updates on train schedules and deals.
4️⃣ Justify Your Choices with Benefits & Costs
- GDS: Essential for handling travel bookings. Costs vary, but it increases sales.
- Social Media & Ads: Attracts student travelers and builds an online presence. Low-cost but highly effective.
- Website: A booking hub that provides 24/7 access to travel options. Requires investment but saves money long-term.
- Remote Work: Eliminates office rent expenses and allows for hiring younger, tech-savvy travel agents.
5️⃣ End with a Strong Conclusion
Wrap up your section by reinforcing how these technologies will help your agency stand out. Example:
“By implementing a combination of GDS booking systems, a strong online presence, and automated tools, our student travel agency will cater to the digital habits of young travelers. These technological advancements will enhance customer engagement, reduce operational costs, and establish our agency as a leader in student travel across Canada.”
This guide ensures your Technology section is detailed, well-structured, and backed by industry insights! 🎯🚀
